A lot of people are well aware of how important cars are to our modern society. In a lot of ways, the car is the sequel to the horse, in that it allows us to get to where our feet just are not fast enough to take us. After all, can you imagine how our society would be if everyone just walked everywhere, and never drove? While it might be good for reducing our rates of diabetes, and it would probably chop down obesity like a very sickly tree, it would put trade and transportation of land on its knees. After all, our entire world is built on the use of the car, at least in the United States and other countries where mass transit isn’t popular.
Consider how far it really is, just to get across town to work every day. Unless you telecommute, it would be a real hassle trying to get to your job on foot. And as great as bicycles are, they are just not fast enough (nor clean and convenient enough) to transport you through the world like a car can. Simply put, a car is just the best way to get where you are going, both in the realm of doing business and in the realm of literally having to go somewhere.
Consider what would happen if you tried to ride a bike to a sales call or to most kinds of jobs. By the time you got there, you would either have to wash up and change your clothes, or you would look half of the way to being homeless. After all, the streets are dirty places, no matter how hard most cities may work to clean them. And the weather will do harsh things to you a lot of the time, if you allow it to. So treat your car well, because it is your trusty steed.
